- Short presentation + Artist description
- Nomad’s Land is a Shanghai-based rock band formed in 2013 by singer and guitarist Jess M. (France), bassist Damien Banzigou (Mauritius), guitarist Ben Misterka (USA), and drummer Charles Foldesh (USA). The members’ wide range of musical influences include funk, jazz, folk/bluegrass, and world music. They incorporate these influences into a unique blend of styles. Regulars on the Shanghai music scene, they had worked together in various groups, but this was their first collaborative effort in this format. Shortly after the birth of the group, they were asked to perform 6 nights per week in a popular Shanghai music venue, which allowed them to establish and develop their eclectic sound. They often incorporate aspects of such subgenres as alternative rock, psychedelic rock, classic rock, and jangle pop. The band’s sound is characterized by powerful, epic builds and tight, funky unison lines. There is no shortage of head-nod-inducing grooves, and catchy melodies. Although their songwriting process is a collaborative effort, Nomad’s Land is lyrically spearheaded by Jess M., who’s dramatic songs are largely based on personal experiences. The lyrics are frequently inspired by feelings of defiance and perseverance, romance and love, and loneliness and helplessness presented in ways that stretch deeper than the ubiquitous roar of repetitive modern pop music.
